This adventure takes us to the south of the nearby Moroccothe gateway to the Sahara. We will start the route crossing the massif of the Atlas by the route of Demnate towards the Skoura palm grove. A spectacular route, dotted with adobe villages lost in time, which passes through the Tassaut valleyone of the most special places in the Atlas and which hides wonders such as the village of Magdaz or the Kasbah of Amridil.
After the oasis of peace of SkouraWe will continue southwards, following in the footsteps of the ancient Caravan Route, which on its way to the far-off Timbuktu, landscapes as varied as the mountains from Jebel Saghrothe river palm grove Draa or the sea of dunes of the erg Chegaga. It is home to historical gems such as the Telouet PalaceThe headquarters of El Glaoui, the former Pasha of Marrakechthe Kasbah of Taourit or the fortified city of Ait Ben Haddou, a place that leaves no one indifferent.
On the banks of the Draa, hidden among its large palm groves, lies the old Jewish quarter of the city. Kasbah of TamnougaltThe caravan routes from Sijilmasa o Telouet. Still further south, we find the underground village of TamegrouteThe city was once a centre of pilgrimage and Koranic studies. And now, caressing the desert sands, Zagora, Tagounite and finally M'hamidwhere the river disappears, devoured by the desert, only to reappear 600 km to the west, at the Saharan beaches of Tan-Tan.
And after M'hamidthe desert. We will cross hamadas, dunes and oases before arriving at the immensity of the sea of dunes of the Erg ChegagaThe most special place of the whole trip, where we will spend the night among the dunes. A magical night.
We will return to Ouarzazate another equally spectacular route, to finish the journey in one of our favourite places, the Kasbah of Taourit. We can think of no better way to end the trip than by listening to the call of the evening prayer from the terrace of our riad inside the medina.
