USA: On any given Sunday

This weekend I discovered a place that I can't wait until Monday to show you. So I'm going to post it right away. And as it's Sunday night, for once I'm going to pay attention to your tastes and I'm going to post a lot of photos and not much text...

I am also writing from the bed of pain, because this afternoon we played a football match against the children of our colleagues (maximum rivalry) and I, who am not a football player, signed up because the victory seemed clear. And not only did they beat us, but they gave me a ball in my badly wounded back that I can't even move (and we told them that it wasn't worth a cannonball).

we will win the next match for sure because we will force them to apply the parity law and half of their team must be girls.

The area you are going to see is called Merchant Millpond and as you can see it is another of those wonders of nature that the United States has hidden all over the country, and that you can find on any given Sunday. And also be the only visitor. It would be because of the time of the year, which doesn't invite you to go for a walk...

Either that, or because its waters are home to some of the northernmost alligators in the country, at least that's what the warning sign says. But as you know, in my profession fear is not an option, (and I never pay much attention to the signs), so I took the kayak (you always have to have one handy) and went inland.

Thinking that I would be surprised to see an alligator, how exaggerated the poster people are....

and the kid showed up after five minutes. Even so, I had the cold blood to take this picture before breaking the record for the 100m rowing. I think the crocodile is still hallucinating with the encounter (he must have thought if it was a bird, a plane...).

I don't know if the waters are infested with crocodiles, as I only saw one, but it kept me in a state of anxiety for the whole morning.

When I got over the shaking of my hand I was able to take some photos like these and enjoy the scenery. You can't tell me it's not impressive

in case anyone did not see my wonderful entry on the Congaree swamps (or worse, saw it but did not read it) I will tell you that these trees you are about to see in the pictures are bald cypresses.

And I'll leave you with the photos, I'm going to sleep, tomorrow is Monday and I have to go back to work. Two computers are waiting for me, they have me enslaved to a table and four walls that imprison me. I love office work, I didn't know it could be so much fun. Is it possible to be happier?

if it weren't for these escapades....

for these weekend getaways and for the longer ones, next week is Thanksgiving, I have four days off and I'm planning to go and see what's going on in Canada, I'll let you know.

And now I leave you with the photos, I hope you like them, I'm sure you will, because I'm aware that I'm getting better day by day. And I took the photos in extreme conditions, inside a kayak that kept moving, with one hand on a paddle, the other on the camera, with an eye looking for alligators and the other on the camera. And still look what came out

I hope you liked them. I do, very much.

Keep encouraging me Pilar, your praise helps me to know that I am not preaching in the desert, that at least someone is reading me.

Carlitos, but what I like is the prose of Cucharilla Perez Galdos. Don't be polite, man.

Pedro, we've been friends for at least 30 years and that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me, I'm touched. Nothing, next day I will put more text in my entry, you can blame it on Pedro...

Ya prima, but the thing about travelling alone is that there's no one to take your photos. Besides, the landscape doesn't always improve with my presence, in most cases it does, I know, but sometimes....

Thank you very much Mauricio, I'm glad you liked the photos. I encourage you with this idea of preaching Christianity in Yemen, I don't see it as an easy enterprise. How did you start with that? Best regards
